We went out on Sept. 22, the first day of autumn, in search of fall foliage and instead found summer colors and temperatures. Pictured above is a field in Armada Township full of sunflowers and other bright flowers which are sold as arrangements at Vanhoutte Farms on Romeo Plank Road. On the right, Savannah Kavanagh of Richmond gives floral arrangements at Blake’s Orchard and Cider Mill in Armada Township a drink of water as temperatures soared to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The National Weather Service said this unusual autumn heat wave is expected to break as soon as today, Sept. 27.
