SUPERMOON, SUPER SHOW

SUPERMOON, SUPER SHOW. Last week’s super moon helped created this eerie scene along the Macomb Orchard Trail in Armada Township. A supermoon is a full moon or a new moon that approximately coincides with the closest distance that the Moon reaches to Earth in its elliptic orbit, resulting in a larger-than-usual apparent size of the lunar disk as seen from Earth. Astronomers say that there will be two more supermoons next month on Jan.1 and Jan. 31. At moonset on Jan. 31, local observers will be able to see the beginnings of a total lunar eclipse. The Jan. 31 full moon is also considered a blue moon. (Photo by Larry Sobczak)
