Toys for Tots wraps up Dec. 15

The Marine Corps Reserve 2017 Toys for Tots Toy Drive climaxes with Guard Dog Week at Romeo High School.

The Romeo High School Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball teams will promote the Toys for Tots Toy Collection through Dec. 15 during Romeo Guard Dog Week.

Romeo High School students and fans that bring an unwrapped toy or wear their Guard Dog T-Shirt will be given free admission to the girls and boys freshman, junior varsity, and varsity basketball games held on Dec. 14 and 15.

The Romeo High School girls basketball program hosts Port Huron Northern High School on Thursday, Dec. 14 and the boys basketball program will host Anchor Bay High School on Friday, Dec. 15.

Freshman games start at 4 p.m., junior varsity starts at 5:30 p.m., and varsity games start at 7 p.m.

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve will be present to collect the unwrapped toys at both the girls and boys varsity basketball games.

With the combined efforts of Tarr and Associates and the Romeo High School basketball programs last Christmas, more than 500 toys were collected and approximately $300 in cash donations were received for the community Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Toy Drive.

In addition, Tarr and Associates, located at 167 South Main Street in Romeo, will be accepting new, unwrapped toys from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., through Friday, Dec. 15.

A holiday mixer will also be held at Tarr and Associates 5-7 p.m., tonight, Dec. 13, where participants can drop off an unwrapped gift.

The Greater Romeo-Washington Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the mixer and it will announce the winners of the downtown Romeo Christmas window decorating contest.

Anyone who drops of an unwrapped toy at the Tarr and Associates building will be entered in a prize drawing for a chance to win four tickets to “ELF the Musical” at the Detroit Fox Theater on Friday, Dec. 22.

Organizers say that this year the goal is to double the collection numbers and they look to the local community for their support.

For any questions, please contact Tarr and Associates at 586-752-0100 during normal business hours or the Romeo High School Athletic Department at 586 281-1145.
