The Record receives two awards

The Record received two awards from the Michigan Press Association’s (MPA) 2021 “Better Newspapers Contest.”

The 155-year-old organization announced the awards last week.

Editor Larry Sobczak received third place in the feature photo category for “Summer’s End” which a sailboat belonging to members of the CreekFleet Sailing Club returning to the dock on Sept. 3, 2020.

The Record also received third place in the in-house circulation ad category. The ad is titled “Morning in your kitchen” and a version of it appears in this week’s newspaper. The ad was designed by Lyn Baxter and the ad copy was written by Sobczak.

Typically, the awards are given at the MPA’s annual convention held each March but was cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Since The Record was founded on Dec. 1, 2015, the newspaper and its staff have received 20 awards from the MPA.
