ORLIN G. ALLEN

Orlin Garth Allen, 88, of Romeo, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023. He was born Dec. 13, 1934 in Vassar, the son of John and Ethel (Laur) Allen. He married Sharon Kay Kluck on Aug. 11, 1962 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Saginaw.

He graduated from Vassar High School in 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Army. He received his bachelors degree from Michigan State University in 1960 and then received his masters in teaching from Saginaw Valley University.

Orlin taught English, science and computer at the former Romeo Middle School for 39 years. He coached the Romeo Middle School football team and led the chess team as well. He was a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Washington.  Orlin spent his summers working as a park ranger at Stoney Creek Metro Park. He was a producer at WBRW for five years. His hobbies were vast, from attending summer clay sessions at Starkweather Art Center, taking care of his flower garden, and he enjoyed camping with his family. Orlin and Sharon instilled the love of the outdoors through camping to all of their children and grandchildren.  Orlin loved traveling with his wife Sharon to Elder Hostiles to the East Coast and the Carolinas and took annual trips in September to Otis Point, Maine.  Orlin enjoyed life, loved his family and shall be missed by many.

Orlin is survived by his beloved children, Dawn Allen of Romeo, Garth (Anita) Allen of Attica and Tara (Jim) Goulet of Romeo; beloved grandchildren, Jordan (Robert Rau), Dawn Odette (Anthony Mancellis), Kyle, Noah, Meagan, Gareth (Natalie Rado) and Joey (Kelsey); great-grandsons, Cooper and Terry; sister-in-law Audrey Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years Sharon on June 23, 2019 and his siblings, Edith Ducolon of Reese, Wilma Reamy of Millington, Robert Laur Allen of Elmer, Earl Lynn Allen, Cleo Allen, and Ullery Allen of Vassar.

A memorial service will be held in January.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Washington Lions Club for the Bear Lake Camp or Penrickton Center for Blind Children and Leader Dogs for the Blind.
