No your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you—The Record is bigger this week.

We have grown into a broadsheet format which allows us to put news, sports and features into your newspaper each week. It also gives advertisers enough space to run full page ads.

When we began this newspaper more than a year ago, we promised we would expand it to the larger format once we had sufficient readers and advertisers. Readers and advertisers overwhelmingly responded and now we are making good on our promise.

This week is also exciting because we have added more news and features. Take a look in this week’s newspaper for these features that premiere this week:

  • “Moments in Time”, a column that appears on page 3. Important and interesting dates in history are highlighted. It is a compliment to the photo feature “People, Places & Things: Our Past” which is written by members of the Romeo Historical Society. We know a lot of our readers are history buffs so we have moved both forward in the newspaper.
  • “Salome’s Stars” is our new weekly horoscope and it located on page 6. This feature ran for decades in our predecessor, The Romeo Observer, and we heard many readers missed it.
  • There will now be room on the opinions and editorial page to run both nationally syndicated columnists Rich Lowry and Bob Franken in order to accommodate a wide range of opinions. There is also enough room to run your letters—just be sure to follow our guidelines in order to increase your chance of getting your letter published.
  • “News from Our Neighboring Communities” premieres on page 7. It’s snippets of newspaper stories published by our colleagues in nearby towns.
  • Three new comic strips appear on page 7. Those strips include Amber Waves, The Cashier and Grin It and Bear It. We’re fans of comic strips and we hope you are too.
  • Last but not least, there is now a weekly Sudoku puzzle on page 7. Hold onto your newspaper because the solution appears in the following week.

One major addition we made a few months ago was to add a replica of the print edition online for subscribers. It’s compatible with most computers, phones and tablets. You need to log into the website to see it and if you forgot your password, follow the instructions on how to reset your password or get a new password emailed to you.

We are always looking for ways to improve your Record newspaper. We look forward to hearing your feedback.
