Sharron Faye Freeman, 80, of Harsens Island, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023 in her home with the love and support of her family. She was born July 7, 1943 to Shelby and Lanell Vincent in Detroit.

She attended Wayne State University where she received her bachelors of art degree in music and also where she met her future husband. She worked as an elementary school music teacher, and later as a middle school reading specialist, in the Romeo Community School District for more than 30 years before retiring in 2000 to Harsens Island.

Sharron was very active in local politics and passionate about the importance of public education. She served as the president of her teachers’ union, president of the American Association of University Women and received her masters of education. She also regularly played the organ at church (and the piano at home), volunteered for Meals on Wheels, had a beautiful singing voice and loved to dance. But, above everything else, she was the world’s greatest Grandma.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Jerry; son, Kenneth (Amy); and daughters, Cynthia and Julia (Brian). Sharron is also survived by her seven adoring grandchildren: Tim, Anna, Grace, Lanell, Noel, Sam and Amelia; and her three brothers, Gerald, Shelby and Doug.

She will be missed beyond measure.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, at Muir Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, 296 South Main Street, Romeo, MI 48065.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 at the funeral home.
