The Charter Township of Oakland Parks and Recreation Commission will hold a public hearing to receive public comments on Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant application TF25-0064 for the addition of access improvements at Blue Heron Environmental Area in Section 22 of Oakland Township. This 106-acre park area is located on the west side of Rochester Road, north of Gunn Road and south of Buell Road.
The proposed access improvements include a parking lot, accessible limestone trails connecting to a proposed Rochester Road safety path, and trailhead facilities that will provide drinking water, restrooms, a picnic area, wayfinding signage, and interpretive signage.
The Public Hearing will be held Wednesday March 12, 2025 at 7:00 pm at the Oakland Township Hall, 4393 Collins Road, Rochester, Michigan, 48306.
Copies of the draft grant application will be available for public inspection beginning March 10, 2025 on the Parks and Recreation home page of the Oakland Township website at https://www.oaklandtownship.org/boards_and_commissions/parks_and_recreation/index.php. Hard copies will be available for review at 10am March 11, 2025 at the Parks and Recreation Offices at the Paint Creek Cider Mill, 4480 Orion Road, Rochester, MI 48306 and at the Oakland Township Hall, 4393 Collins Road, Rochester, MI 48306.
Written comments can be emailed to parksplanning@oaklandtownship.org, mailed to “OT Parks 2025 Blue Heron Environmental Area Access Improvements”, 4393 Collins Road, Rochester, MI 48306, or placed in the drive-up drop box located at the Oakland Township Hall, 4393 Collins Road, Rochester, MI 48306, until March 24, 2025.
