PUBLIC NOTICE – SYNOPSIS VILLAGE OF ROMEO REGULAR BOARD MEETING MAY 19, 2025

PLACE: 361 Morton Street Romeo, MI 48065, South Building Meeting Room

TIME: 7:00 P.M.

Regular Meeting was opened at 7:00 p.m. Roll call and Pledge of Allegiance was recited. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Approval of Agenda as presented. Motion carried Unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Approval of Minutes from April 21, 2025 – Motion carried 4-3. Trustees Rosso, Parker, and Fowler dissented. APPROVAL OF COUNCIL BILLS: Approval in the amount of $61,483.95 and $156,255.18 – Motion carried Unanimously. SPECIAL PRESENTATION: Presentation given by DDA Chair, Andrea St. Laurent. PUBLIC COMMENTS: Comments were heard by residents and concerned parties regarding the activities of the Village Council and the potential abolition of the Romeo Police Department. OFFICER REPORTS: President – Report given; Clerk – Report given; Treasurer – President Poznanski reported the Village of Romeo has gained $587,938.13 in interest since investing it’s money; Trustees – Report given by Trustee Fowler; Planning Commission Ex-Officio – Report given. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Bruce Sewer – Clerk Lucero and Trustees Edwards and Parker set a meeting for 6/10 at 6:30pm at Village Hall to discuss Bruce Twp’s request for more capacity; Ethics Committee – President Poznanski reported on the Ethics Committee. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Draft 25-26 Budget – Line item in cemetery to be renamed. Final budget meeting scheduled for 5/28/2025; Paid Parking Contract w/ DDA – Motion by Trustee Parker, support by Trustee Kare, to reimburse the DDA $1,160. Motion carried Unanimously; Bond Funds Captured – Clerk Lucero reported that the Village’s liability insurance has issued a check to the Village in the amount of $16,699.23 due to the previous Clerk’s activities. NEW BUSINESS: DPW Purchase Request – Motion by Trustee Edwards, support by Trustee Kare, to approve the purchase of a new power washer for the DPW. Motion carried 6-1. Trustee Fowler was the lone voice of dissent; WWTP Purchase – Motion by Trustee Kare, support by Trustee Bartholomew, to approve Romeo WWTP purchase request. Motion carried Unanimously; Cemetery Expansion / Romeo Retention Pond and RCS – Village Council decided to have Attorney Mark Clark write a letter to Romeo Community Schools; DDA Appointments – Motion by Trustee Edwards, support by Bartholomew, to place Tom Stevens and Carin Murdock on the DDA. Motion carried 6-1. President Poznanski dissented; e. Joint Council and DDA Proposed Meeting Dates – Village Council decided to offer July 14, 2025 as a date with July 17, 2025 as an alternate date; Village Public Safety Consideration – Topic was asked to be added to the agenda by Trustee Fowler with support by Trustee Parker at the April 22, 2025 Budget Meeting. Discussion was had about contracting Macomb County Sheriffs Office for Police services, Communications services, or both. Motion by Trustee Fowler, support by Trustee Parker, to ask Macomb County Sheriff’s Office to give a presentation to the Village Council for Communications Services (Dispatch). Motion failed 1-6. Trustees Bartholomew, Edwards, Kare, Parker, Rosso, and President Poznanski dissented; Optimization of Resources in Relation to Finances and Collaboration Between Boards – Topic was added to the agenda by Trustee Rosso. Village Council discussed and agreed to have DTE Energy perform an energy audit for the Village. Additional discussion included the roles of Village Boards and the possible consolidation of said boards. PUBLIC COMMENTS: Comments were heard by residents and concerned parties regarding support for the Romeo Police Department as well as the Energy Audit. ADJOURNMENT: Motion by Trustee Fowler, support by Trustee Bartholomew, to adjourn the meeting at 9:11 p.m. Motion carried Unanimously.
