Romeo public notices appear in The Record

The Romeo Village Council voted 5-2 at its Sept. 18 meeting to continue publishing legal and public notices in The Record newspaper.

Voting against the publishing in The Record were trustees Christine Malzahn and Nathan Bartholomew.

Romeo Clerk Mike Lee began publishing public notices in The Record in July but Trustee Bob Hart questioned whether it was necessary at the trustee’s August meetings. The board decided to revisit the issue at its next meeting.

“I still don’t think it’s necessary,” Malzahn said at the Sept. 18 meeting.

Trustee Meagan Poznanski disagreed with Malzahn and asked the board to compare the publishing cost to the $4,500 a month to Mitt.TV to video record village meetings and upload them onto the Internet.

“If we’re going to spend money on things, this is a worthy cause,” Poznanski said. “For $100 a month–even if we only had five people reading them–it’s worth it.”

The Record was founded in 2015 by former employees of The Romeo Observer when that newspaper closed its doors after 149 years of publishing.
