CANE PRESENTATION

CANE PRESENTATION. Richard Chernowsky, a 40 year resident of Washington Township, holds a handmade cane presented to him by Michigan Woodcarvers who meet weekly at the Washington Township Hall and carves walking canes for veterans. Chernowsky was stationed on the U.S.S. Joseph Kennedy, Jr. from 1964-1967. He spent two tours and was hung up south of the Suez Canal when it was closed in June of 1967. He was separated from his ship in Rio the day his daughter was born, July 13, 1967. His is considered a Vietnam era veteran. Proud to serve his country aboard the U.S.S.
