The Greater Washington Area Historical Society and Washington Elementary School celebrated President George Washington’s 286th birthday at an assembly on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The winners of the society’s Ninth Annual George Washington Art Contest were announced and are pictured left to right, fifth grade winner—Emily Martinez, fourth grade winner—Carl Xie and third grade winner—Charles Hawkins. The winners all received gift cards from Barnes and Noble. In addition, Evie Goedge, Renee Ciak, Anna Ferguson and Hadley Trudeau each won a prize for being finalists three years in a row. After the assembly, all 27 of the finalists went to the Washington Museum for a pizza lunch and tour of the museum. The finalist’s entries are pictured in the lower photo.
