Ferrington says the visit to the Capitol brings to life the lessons they are studying about congress. “It really opens their eyes,” she said. Lucido said he relishes student visits. “I enjoy showing them my desk on the house floor and explaining the legislative process. Students hear about a legislator voting ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on a certain bill; there’s a great impact when they actually get to see the green and red button on the desk where these votes take place.”

The February visit was the second by Romeo students this year. Civics instructor Dave Robertson took a civics class to the Capitol in late January. (Photo courtesy Rep. Peter Lucido)
