Annual police millage approved

A special assessment for funding of police department expenses was approved at the Armada Village Council meeting on March 26.

The assessment was voted in by the council last year to assure funding for the Armada Police Department. The board must hold a public hearing each year to give the public a chance to ask questions and comment on the assessment.

Treasurer Jo Adair explained the special assessment to the audience.

“The money will be used for our police department and our police department only. It can’t be used for water, sewer or anything like that. Last year we voted in 3.5 mills. This year we have reduced it to 3.25 mills,” she said.

The board will determine the number of mills based on the police department’s needs.

“Every year there is an opportunity for it to go up as the budget requires,” said Parks Commissioner Sam Boelke.

The board unanimously approved the police special assessment roll.
