CANE PRESENTATION. Ron Zuccaro, left, was presented with a hand-carved cane by Ron Shook, right, of Romeo on June 5. Shook is a member of the Michigan Wood Carvers Association which carves canes for veterans and meets every week at the Washington Township Senior Center. Zuccaro had a lengthy military career and served in three branches of the military including the Marines, U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. He earned two purple hearts, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm Citation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, rifle expert, Army Combat Infantry Badge, Navres Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Army Bronze Star with combat “V”, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Small Arms Expert Medal. He was in the Fifth Marines, Fourth Infantry division, Third Regiment Brigade, Second of the Eighth Battalion and the 27th Seabee’s. He served from 1958 to 1987. Zuccaro was also a professional wrestler under the name of Ron Martinelli in the 1970s and 1980s. He won the Continental Wrestling Association Heavyweight World Title in 1980. (Photo by Mike Nicley)
