A torch relay celebrating the bicentennial of Macomb County made its way through the area in the early hours of Friday, June 20. Romeo Village Clerk Mike Lee, pictured in the white shirt holding the torch, was the designated dignitary who ran it one mile starting at the village hall to a point along the Macomb Orchard Trail where it was handed off to the next runner in the 200 mile relay. Escorting Lee through the village were Romeo Police officers Nicosia and Mason on his left along with Gabe Pozanski and officers Hoffman and Soulliere on his right. Lee dedicated his run to local soldiers who gave their lives in the defense of the United States and to Romeo Police officer Omer Reygert who lost his life in the line of duty in 1969. The torch began its journey through every community in the county in Mount Clemens on Thursday morning where it also ended on Friday night to light a fireworks celebration.
