
Henry A. Borg, 92, of Romeo, passed away under Cape Coral Hospice’s gracious care on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018. He was born on Sept. 10, 1926 in Detroit to Reno Sr. and Hattie (Uchwat) Borg. He married Ann Mudar in 1950.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served in WWII as a third class electrician’s mate, earning several medals. In 1950, he went on to attend Michigan State University under the GI bill. They had two daughters while he attended MSU, Nancy and Debbie. He graduated in June of 1956 with a Bachelor’s of Science in electrical/mechanical engineering and packaging. He received many engineering patents during his working career. He retired from the U.S. Army Warren Tank facility in June of 1988. He served as a Registered Code Official and Electrical Inspector in the Village of Romeo and various other townships for over 42 years. He owned Borg Electric and trained journeyman electricians to pass their master test to become certified licensed contractors. In 1982, he purchased a 1959, 31-foot Richardson cabin cruiser. For more than 30 years he worked to rebuild this boat from the keel up. During this project he acquired a new passion for woodworking and made beautiful handcrafted pieces for family members. He loved working in his woodshop. Henry was devoted to his family and adored his grandchildren.
Henry was a lifetime member of VFW Post #2052, honorary lifetime member of the North Macomb Sportsman Club and the Elk’s Club. He was also a member of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church in Romeo.
He was preceded in death by his spouse, Anna (Mudar) Borg in October 1997, as well as his parents and brother Reno Borg.
Henry is survived by his significant other, Karen Riley of Ft. Myers, Fla.; his daughters, Nancy (Jerry) Wildeboer of Berwyn, Penn. and Deborah (John) Obrecht of Bruce Township; brothers, Ernie (Carole Lutes) and Richard Borg; sister, Cynthia (Paul) Sultana; grandchildren, Carolyn (Nate) Bielawski, Eric (Jasmine DeForest); and great-grandchildren, James, Owen and Henry John Bielawski.
The family is planning a private service. Family members suggest in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home where the family will award the funds to a Romeo High 2019 graduate in Hank’s memory.
