Richard Arland Brooks, 83, of Romeo, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born Nov. 26, 1935, the son of Charles and Helena (Banks) Brooks in Romeo. On July 2, 1962, he married Sandra Gaines in Colorado Springs.
Mr. Brooks graduated from Romeo High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of Master Sargent and where he served two tours in Korea and four tours in Germany. After his service in the army, he worked for Detroit Edison, retiring after 20 years. He was a life member of The Second Baptist Church of Romeo. He enjoyed playing and watching baseball as well as reading western novels and doing word puzzles.
He is survived by his loving wife Sandra Brooks of Romeo; beloved children, Charles Brooks of Romeo, Jeffrey Brooks of Grand Rapids and Angela Brooks of Mableton, Georgia; loving grandchildren, Katrina, Charlie, Rochelle, Andreas, Arland, Precious, India, Ebony, Olivia and Ayla; and nine great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Ida Jean Garnett.
A Home Going Service was held at the Second Baptist Church of Romeo on Saturday, Dec. 29
Burial is at Romeo Cemetery.
