Eileen Jane (Fernane) Martin, 98, of Romeo, departed this life on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019 at Troy Beaumont Hospital. She was born on Jan. 16, 1921 to M.J. and Elizabeth Lewis Fernane in New Milford, Penn, the eldest of four children. On July 12, 1941, she married Michael Martin, Jr. at St. John’s Catholic Church in New Milford, Penn.
Eileen graduated from New Milford High School where she played varsity basketball. She graduated from Ridley Business School and worked for 25 years at Marine Midland Trust Company in Binghamton, N.Y. She moving to Romeo, MI in 2003 to be close to family and enjoy their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eileen loved her family, her Irish heritage, her Catholic faith, and everyone she met. She will also be remembered for her hostess skills, her beautiful interiors and her gardens as well as her chocolate cake.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Donald) Edwards of Romeo; her son, Michael Fernane (Diane) Martin of Coventry, R.I.; grandchildren, Alycia Starr of Romeo, Lisa Edwards and Amy Starr both of Washington, Bryan Edwards and Donald (Chasity) Edwards both of Kansas City, Mo., Michael (Audrey) Martin of Providence, R.I.; and many Fernane nieces and nephews in California.
Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Michael, in 2013; and her grandson, Robert Martin Starr in 2016.
Visitation is 2-7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo with the Rosary at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20 at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, Romeo.
Interment will be at the Romeo Cemetery.
