The Romeo Middle School Boys and Girls Cross Country team are the Macomb County Champs for the second year in a row.

The teams won the honor in the annual Eastside Invitational held Tuesday, Oct. 15 at Stony Creek Metropark’s Eastwood Beach.

“I am extremely proud of all my runners. They display a high level of dedication and commitment each and every day,” said head coach Jim Charrette. “I am also very proud of the fact that over the past two seasons we have almost doubled the size of our program to a total of 61 runners.”

Steve Reggio joined Charrette this season as assistant coach as the program grows.

The Eastside Invitational had 20 teams competing in four races.

The races were girls varsity, boys varsity, girls junior varsity and boys junior varsity.

The top seven runners compete in each of the varsity races while the remaining runners compete in the junior races.

Going into the Eastside Invitational the Romeo Boys were the defending champions.

The boys varsity team was comprised of Connor Clor, Luke Allen, Bryce Goodsell, Noah Sarrach, Cole Paquette, Gabe Phelps and Josh Felstow.

“Six of our seven boys won medals for finishing the race in the top 20. Josh (Felstow) just missed the top 20 by 2 seconds, finishing 23rd out of 142 runners,” Charrette said. “Our boys varsity and JV teams have gone undefeated so far this season with one race remaining.”

The girls varsity team was comprised of Violet Hrabovsky, Maya Muskan, Emmerson Clor, Sofia Eliakis, Nevada Jaczkowski, Helena Murphy and Katie Pollzzie.

“Violet (Hrabovsky), Maya (Muskan), and Emmerson (Clor) won medals by finishing third, seventh, and ninth overall out of 135 runners,” Charrette said.
