PUBLIC NOTICE – NOTICE OF REGISTRATION FOR THE ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2020 OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN

Oakland Township logoTO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF OAKLAND TOWNSHIP:

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that any qualified elector of Oakland Township who is not already registered, may register to vote at the office of the Township Clerk; the office of the County Clerk; a Secretary of State branch office, or other designated state agency. Registration forms can be obtained at www. mi.gov/vote and mailed to the Township Clerk. Voters who are already registered may update their registration at www.expressSOS.com.

The last day to register in any manner other than in-person with the local clerk is Monday, October 19, 2020.

After this date, anyone who qualifies as an elector may register to vote in person with proof of residency (MCL 168.497) at the Oakland Township Clerk’s office, located at 4393 Collins Road, Rochester, MI 48306 at the following times:

• Regular business hours: Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Due to Covid-19 we are open to the public from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM or you can make an appointment.)

• Saturday, October 31, 2020 from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM

• Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2020 from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the election will be conducted in all voting precincts of the Charter Township of Oakland for the purpose of electing candidates for the following offices:

PRESIDENTIAL: President and Vice-President of the United States

CONGRESSIONAL: Representative in Congress and US Senator

LEGISLATIVE: Representative in State Legislature

COUNTY: County Executive, Prosecuting Attorney, Sheriff, Clerk & Register of Deeds, Treasurer, Water Resources Commissioner, and County Commissioner

JUDICIAL: Judge of Circuit Court

STATE BOARDS: State Board of Education, Regent of the University of Michigan, Trustee of Michigan State University, Governor of Wayne State University

TOWNSHIP:Supervisor, Clerk, Treasurer, Trustee (4), Park Commissioner (7) and Library Board

COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Trustee for Oakland Community College

LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT: Board Member Rochester Community School District, Board Member Lake Orion Community Schools, Board Member Romeo Community Schools.

And for the purpose of voting on the following proposals with a brief description included:

STATE PROPOSALS:

20-1 A proposed constitutional amendment to allow money from oil and gas mining on state-owned lands to continue to be collected in state funds for land protection and creation and maintenance of parks, nature areas, and public recreation facilities; and to describe how money in those state funds can be spent.

20-2 A proposed constitutional amendment to require a search warrant in order to access a person’s electronic data or electronic communications.

COUNTY PROPOSAL:

Millage Replacement and increase to Improve, Operate, and Maintain Parks, Open Space Areas, Trails, and Recreation Activities in Oakland County Michigan.

TOWNSHIP PROPOSALS:

CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF OAKLAND – FIRE DEPARTMENT AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES OPERATION MILLAGE

To continue the previously authorized levy of .9975 mills for a period of eight (8) years, beginning December 2021 and expiring December 2028 for the purpose of providing fire protection services, including the operation and maintenance of the Oakland Township Fire Department and purchase of equipment and buildings to serve the Charter Township of Oakland.

CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF OAKLAND – RENEWAL OF THE HISTORIC DISTRICT OPERATING MILLAGE

To renew a levy of up to .1096 for a period of ten (10) years, starting with the December 2022 levy, for the purpose of continuing to fund historic preservation, education, restoration, acquisition, and maintenance within the Charter Township of Oakland.
