PUBLIC NOTICE – NOTICE OF ELECTION OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN FOR THE NOVEMBER 3, 2020 GENERAL ELECTION

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a General Election will be held in Oakland Township on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. The polls will be open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the following locations:

Precinct 1 – Hugger Elementary School, 5050 Sheldon Road

Precinct 2 – Woodlands Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, 1441 West Romeo Road

Precinct 3 – Baldwin Elementary School, 4325 Bannister Road

Precinct 4 – Baldwin Elementary School, 4325 Bannister Road

Precinct 5 – Delta Kelly Elementary School, 3880 Adams Road

Precinct 6 – Oakland Twp. Fire Station #2, 1888 Rochester Road

Precinct 7 – Musson Elementary School, 3500 West Dutton Road

Precinct 8 – Delta Kelly Elementary School, 4325 Bannister Road

The General Election is being held for the purpose of electing candidates for the following offices:

PRESIDENTIAL President and Vice-President of the United States

CONGRESSIONAL United States Senator, Representative in Congress

LEGISLATIVE Representative in State Legislature

COUNTY County Executive, Prosecuting Attorney, Sheriff, Clerk and Register of Deeds, Treasurer, Water Resource Commissioner, County Commissioner

JUDICIAL Justice of Supreme Court, Judge of Court of Appeals – 2nd District, Judge of Circuit Court – 6th Circuit, Judge of Probate Court, Judge of District Court – 52nd District 3rd Division

STATE BOARDS State Board of Education, Regent of the University of Michigan, Trustee of Michigan State University, Governor of Wayne State University

And for the purpose of voting on the following PROPOSALS with a brief description included:

STATE PROPOSALS:

20-1 A proposed constitutional amendment to allow money from oil and gas mining on state-owned lands to continue to be collected in state funds for land protection and creation and maintenance of parks, nature areas, and public recreation facilities; and to describe how money in those state funds can be spent.

20-2 A proposed constitutional amendment to require a search warrant in order to access a person’s electronic data or electronic communications.

COUNTY PROPOSAL:

Millage Replacement and increase to Improve, Operate, and Maintain Parks, Open Space Areas, Trails, and Recreation Activities in Oakland County Michigan.

TOWNSHIP PROPOSALS:

CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF OAKLAND – FIRE DEPARTMENT AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES OPERATION MILLAGE

To continue the previously authorized levy of .9975 mills for a period of eight (8) years, beginning December 2021 and expiring December 2028 for the purpose of providing fire protection services, including the operation and maintenance of the Oakland Township Fire Department and purchase of equipment and buildings to serve the Charter Township of Oakland.

CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF OAKLAND – RENEWAL OF THE HISTORIC DISTRICT OPERATING MILLAGE

To renew a levy of up to .1096 for a period of ten (10) years, starting with the December 2022 levy, for the purpose of continuing to fund historic preservation, education, restoration, acquisition, and maintenance within the Charter Township of Oakland.

Full text of the ballot proposals may be obtained at the Oakland Township Offices located at 4393 Collins Road, Rochester, MI 48306. Sample ballots can be viewed at www.oaklandtownship.org.

Absentee ballots are available for all elections; registered voters may contact the Oakland Township Clerk’s Office, 4393 Collins Road, Rochester, MI 48306 to obtain an application for an absent voter ballot.

The Clerk’s Office will be open on Saturday, October 31, 2020 from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Questions concerning the General Election should be directed to the Oakland Township Clerk’s Office at 248-651-4440.

To comply with the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), voting instructions will be available in audio format and in Braille. Arrangements for obtaining the instructions in these alternative formats can be made by contacting the Township Clerk in advance of the election. All polling locations are accessible for voters with disabilities.
