A small group of ice fishermen make their way out onto the ice at Cranberry Lake in Oakland Township last Friday as the bright winter sun sunk to the horizon. According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, a few anglers have been out on smaller lakes in Oakland County but caution needs to be used. A snowmobile went through the ice on Wolverine Lake so those going out should stick to foot traffic only. Catch rates were slow, according to the DNR, with only a few panfish taken. In Macomb County, anglers have started to venture out in protected canals and marinas of Lake St. Clair. Ice thickness is highly variable and extreme caution needs to be used. Macomb County anglers did report good catches of panfish and perch. (Photos by Larry Sobczak)
