FLORENCE A. DeREES

Florence Ann (Nightingale) DeRees, 85, of Romeo since 1978 and previously from Shelby Township and Lake Orion, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021 at Wellbridge Nursing Facility in Romeo. She was born June 16, 1935 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Ernest and Dorothy Leone (Baker) Nightingale. On Aug. 18, 1956, she married Delbert Duane DeRees at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek.

Florence graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1953. She became a registered nurse after earning her degree in 1956, attending Mercy College School of Nursing which was located in  Battle Creek and Detroit. Florence then worked as a RN at St Joseph’s Hospital in Pontiac in the OBGYN unit and then at St Joseph Hospital in Clinton Township (now known as Henry Ford Hospital Macomb.)  Upon retirement, Florence enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren.

Florence is survived by her husband, Delbert; children, David Owen (Michelle) DeRees, Stephen Ernest (Sharon) DeRees and Julia Ann (DeRees) (Brian) Cunningham; grandchildren, Kaitlin DeRees (Eric Attard), Ali DeRees (Scott Wolchek), Rosie Cunningham (Joe McCartney), Kelly DeRees, Annie Cunningham and Jacob DeRees; siblings, William (Hilda) Nightingale, Dorothy Ed) Kavalhuna, Sallee (Les) Wise and Linda Schneider; brothers-in-law, Dick Barney, Bob Borsch and Norm Schneider.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Grace Barney and Gwendolyn Borsch.

Funeral services are private.

Burial is at Romeo Cemetery.

Donations to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Florence would be appreciated.
