A special election was held May 3 to fill a vacancy in the 36th District of the Michigan House of Representative for a term ending Dec. 31.
The winner was Republican Terence Mekoski who received 7, 834 votes. Democrat James Diez received 5,315 votes.
Locally, Mekoski received 824 votes in Bruce Township and 2,525 votes in Washington Township.
Diez received 510 votes in Bruce Township and 1,553 votes in Washington Township.
