Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Slating Johnson, 97, of Hendersonville N.C. and formerly of Romeo, died Thursday, March 2, 2023. She was born June 24, 1925 in Romeo to Edgar John Slating and Jean Allene Sutherland Slating. She married Robert C. Johnson.
She graduated from Romeo High School in 1942 as class valedictorian. She attended the University of Michigan and graduated from the military cadet program as a registered nurse in 1946.
Betty retired after 20 years of employment at Graham Health Center, Oakland University in Rochester in 1987. Shortly afterwards, she and her husband Bob moved to Etowah, N.C. They enjoyed years exploring western North Carolina with family and friends. They were longtime active members of the First Congregational Church-UCC in Hendersonville, N.C.
She is survived by her children, Ann Batchelor (Tom), David Johnson (Andrea Funk), Alan Johnson (Debbie); five grandchildren, two great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her 9 siblings, Donald, Mary, Margaret, Elton, Mildred, John, Marcelene, James, Jean, along with her beloved husband Robert C. Johnson.
A celebration of life is scheduled at Malburg Funeral Home in Romeo on Saturday, June 24 with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and a funeral service beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be at the Romeo Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
