APRIL 30 ISSUE ANSWERS: The North Brick Block was one year old when the above Bird’s Eye Map of Romeo was made in 1868. In the drawing above there are two buildings. The one to the north is still being used on Main Street. It contains four stores. Main’s Treat Coffeehouse, China Kingdom and two stores being remodeled. In the 1860’s, Giddings Muzzy and Co., A.B. Ayers, Books & Jewelry Paper Hangings & Co., Hoyt & Nye and the rooms of the Masonic Temple were occupying these stores. The fronts of the stores are not original nor are the windows. To the south is the Stirling shoe and book business. The building is earlier and was a wooden structure with a false front to make the building look more impressive. The Stirling wooden building was removed to make way for the new building to be discussed next week. Take a peek at the photo for next week to see what was coming. R.
