RONALD KAISER

Ronald Kaiser passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 2, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, generosity, and service to his family and community.

Ron was born at home in Armada, Michigan, in 1945. Even as a boy, he was hardworking, raising chickens to earn spending money. He graduated from Armada High School in 1963, where he lettered in track, competing in the pole vault. After graduation, he began a 43-year career with General Motors, retiring in 2006.

In 1965, he married the love of his life, Sandra (Shields) Kaiser. Together they made their home in Romeo, Michigan, and raised two daughters.

Ron proudly served as a firefighter and EMT with Bruce Township for many years. His daughters still remember family dinners interrupted by a fire call, as their dad rushed out the door, climbing into the family truck, the red light flashing on top. No matter the time of day or night, he was always ready to help someone in need. The fire hall was also a place of happy memories. His daughters loved climbing the many stairs of the hose tower, exploring the fire trucks, attending the annual summer picnic, and celebrating Christmas with the firefighters, where Santa always made a special appearance.

Ron was a devoted father who coached his daughters’ softball teams and encouraged them through every success and setback. Walks across the Kaiser family farm in Armada became lessons in appreciating nature as he pointed out wildflowers, birds, trees, and wildlife. Family camping trips were another favorite tradition, often made even more memorable by bringing along the girls’ friends. Around the campfire, laughter and stories were shared that are still remembered today.

As his daughters became adults, Ron remained the person they called when something needed fixing. Whether repairing a car, solving a household problem, or offering practical advice, he was always willing to share his knowledge and lend a hand.

Ron enjoyed a wide range of hobbies. He was an avid ham radio operator, bowled in leagues for many years, enjoyed spirited games of pinochle with friends, and loved golf so much that he built his own clubs. Curious by nature, he embraced technology throughout his life, from being an early personal computer user to proudly driving a Lucid electric vehicle.

Retirement brought new adventures. Ron and Sandi enjoyed traveling with friends on cruises through Alaska, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal. In 2019, they moved to Brighton to be closer to family, where Ron embraced being a grandfather. He rarely missed a school event or soccer game, always cheering enthusiastically from the sidelines.

Throughout his life, he believed deeply in kindness, equality, justice, and helping those less fortunate. He also loved animals and for many years shared his home with dogs. In recent years, he formed a special bond with his tuxedo cat, Smudgie, who brought him great comfort and companionship.

Ron is survived by his daughters, Denise (Frank) Kodrack and Darla (Ken McCord) Kaiser; his grandchildren, Tessa and Logan Kodrack; his sister, Nancy (Ken) Montgomery; his brothers, Randall Kaiser and Richard (Karen) Kaiser; his beloved cat, Smudgie; and many extended family members and friends. Petra Kodrack, who has been a cherished part of family gatherings for many years, and Lori Irvin, whose compassionate care and support brought comfort during Ron’s final months at home, also held a special place in Ron’s life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra (Shields) Kaiser; his parents, Carl and Alice (Hulett) Kaiser; and his brother, Robert Kaiser. Ron will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, community servant, and gifted problem solver. He lived a life defined not by recognition, but by showing up for others—whether answering a fire call, coaching a ballgame, fixing an engine, or simply being there when someone needed him. His quiet acts of kindness and steady presence left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the hospice team, friends, and caregivers whose kindness and support brought comfort to Ron and those who loved him.

In his final year, Ron benefited greatly from the generosity of blood and platelet donors. In his memory, please consider becoming a blood donor and helping save lives.

Those wishing to honor Ron’s memory with a charitable gift may consider a donation to World Central Kitchen. More than anything, however, he would simply want people to care for one another.
