Marvin Miller Jr., 89, a lifelong Romeo area resident, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens. He was born Jan. 8, 1933 in Detroit, the son of Marvin J. and Catherine (Archer) Miller. He married Bette Ann Lyons on Nov. 19, 1952 in Indiana.
After graduating from Romeo High School in 1951, he joined the U.S. Navy Reserves where he served in San Diego and Jacksonville, Fla. for two years during the Korean War. After his Navy service, Marvin went to Port Huron Community College for his associate degree and then attended Wayne State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree, both in education. Marvin then started work at the Rochester High School where he taught English and supervised the debate team for more than 30 years. He also helped with the athletic department, working the scoreboard and being its timekeeper for the basketball and football teams for many years, even after retirement. Upon retirement, you could see Marvin and Bette helping out fellow seniors in the Romeo area. He loved to read and take care of his home.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 69 years Bette Ann; son, Robert; grandchildren, Andrew and Marissa; and great grandchildren, Georgia Miller and Colin MacMullin.
Marvin was preceded in death by brother Robert G. Miller.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, July 16 at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
Burial of urn will take place in the Romeo Cemetery.
