PUBLIC NOTICE – NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING NEEDS

At 6:30 p.m. on January 17th, 2024 at the Washington Township Municipal Building located at 57900 Van Dyke, Washington Township, Michigan 48094, a public hearing will be held to obtain the views of citizens concerning community development and housing needs, as required by the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended.

Washington Township will be receiving approximately $14,430 (Fourteen Thousand, Four Hundred and Thirty Dollars) in Community Development Block Grant funds for 2024 Program Year from the Macomb “Urban County” Program. Of those monies, $3,000 (Three Thousand Dollars) is a required to be set-aside for the MCA CHORE program. The remaining $11,430 (Eleven Thousand, Four Hundred and Thirty Dollars) must be allocated by the Township Board to the qualifying Public Service agencies.

Six public service agencies have formally requested monies totaling $21,868 from Washington Township’s 2024 allocation. They include:

Samaritan House Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan Turning Point

Federal guidelines require that maximum priority be given to activities which primarily benefit low- or moderate-income families or which aid in the prevention or elimination of slums or blight. A variety of projects are eligible for community development funding. These include:

Property acquisition Handicapped Barrier Removal Public Facilities

Code enforcement Rehabilitation of Buildings Public Infrastructure

Homebuyer Assistance Housing Rehabilitation Public Services

Planning and Administration

Citizens residing in blighted areas or persons of low and moderate income are encouraged to participate in this process.

Washington Township will make every reasonable effort to encourage the participation of minorities, non-English speaking persons, limited English proficiency persons and persons with disabilities.
