DEC. 18 ISSUE ANSWERS: The Aug. 18, 1966 headline in The Romeo Observer reads, “Plant to be Built Here. It’s Official! Equipment Plant for Tractor Division Set for 160-Acre Site on E. 32 Mile.” Romeo just got the good news that Ford Motor Company was building a 100,000 square foot implement plant for their tractor division. Implements made at the Ford Des Moines Plant would now be built in Romeo. The back hoe and front bucket that are attached to the Ford tractors are called implements. Tractors would still be made in Highland Park and Royal Oak plants until the new phase in 1974. The architect’s drawing above shows the plant before it was enlarged to its present size. This is another example of the theme from “There to Here!” More tractor stories to come from Romeo! Richard Beringer Romeo Historical Society Curator
