NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that at a regular meeting of the Charter Township of Oakland Board of Trustees, held at the Township Hall 4393 Collins Road on May 12, 2026, at 7:00 pm, held in accordance with the Open Meetings Act, Public Act 267 of 1976, as amended, the Charter Township of Oakland adopted Ordinance No. 114, an ordinance to amend Ordinance No. 16, the Charter Township of Oakland Zoning Ordinance, to define and regulate data centers, which is summarized below. A copy of the full text of the Ordinance can be inspected or obtained at the office of the Charter Township of Oakland Clerk, 4393 Collins Road, Rochester, Michigan, 48306.
SUMMARY OF ORDINANCE
ORDINANCE NO. 114
SECTION I AMENDMENT OF ARTICLE II (DEFINITIONS) adds the definition of a “Data Center” to be placed alphabetically under the letter “D.”
SECTION II AMENDMENT OF ARTICLE IV (ZONING DISTRICTS) – SUMMARY TABLES adds Data Centers to summary tables in Section 16-402.
SECTION III AMENDMENT OF ARTICLE IV (ZONING DISTRICTS) – RD DISTRICT permits Data Centers as a Special Land Use in the RD Research-Development District.
SECTION IV AMENDMENT OF ARTICLE V (SPECIAL LAND USES) – DATA CENTER STANDARDS adds a new section titled “Data Centers.”
SECTION V SEVERABILITY confirms that ordinance elements are severable as provided by law.
SECTION VI REPEAL confirms the repeal of Township ordinances or parts thereof which conflict with provisions of this Ordinance.
SECTION VII EFFECTIVE DATE establishes the effective date of the ordinance, based on adoption and publication requirements.
