DEC. 3 ISSUE ANSWERS: The long line of wood businesses with false fronts where the current gas station sits at the northeast corner of Main Street and St. Clair Street in downtown Romeo had many business operations in them. Bakeries, meat shops, auto painting, Crawford Implements, and many others shops appeared here. A small shack-like building had a restaurant called Moses Inn on the corner. Finally, Moses Inn needed to be removed because the Methodist Church decided to build its present building and needed a place to put the old Methodist wood structure. Apparently, they placed it on wheels and rolled it south into town where it sat for a short time. Moses Inn became the new location to park the old Methodist Church. Behind the “steam shovel” in the photo above was the new home for the old Methodist Church. At one point, Mr. Sparks ran a furniture business in that building, and also made coffins there. (Mr. Sparks built the stone walls in front of the apartments on Prospect Street. He did a great job, they’re still standing!) That’s phase two for this location. Next week all this will disappear for phase three. Richard Beringer, Romeo Historical Society Curator
