JAN. 14 ISSUE ANSWERS: When the State Police occupied the Romeo post, the first-floor northwest room was used as a files room. If someone needed a breathalyzer test, they would be brought into this room to be tested for alcohol impairment. The small device in the lower photo would take care of this problem by having the individual breathe into it. This unit was also portable, so it could be taken on patrol. The handcuffs in the photo were attached to the wall in three separate locations in the building. They were only for temporary holding of individuals because there was no jail cell available in the post buildings. The county sheriff was responsible for caring for prisoners. If three individuals were arrested, they could be hand cuffed in three different rooms so they could not corroborate stories about their illegal activities. This room was one of the locations where cuffs were attached to a wall. R. Beringer, Romeo Historical Society curator
